International day of action against fascism and racism, 22 March 2014

Faced with the rising threat of neo-Nazism, a new resistance movement unfolds and struggles to stop it before it’s too late. On January 19, in Athens and in over 40 countries, thousands marched against fascism and racism, as a signal that the hope that struggles bring can defeat despair and fear.Golden Dawn pictures

After the murder of  Pavlos Fyssas a strong antifascist mobilization forced the government to crackdown against Golden Dawn. Increasingly, governments are playing the card of racism  blaming immigrants for their dead-end crisis and mass unemployment. 1. Why?!
According to our intelligence and security services, the threat from the far right, including violence and terrorism is “not as great as the threat from jihad and Islamist terrorism.” Every notice how much “jihad terrorism” has killed and maimed so many people in Europe and the Netherlands recently?

Yes, part of it needs to be aimed at governments’ policies, including policies that mark religious communities as “threats.” There should be an international action day against racism, fascism and Islamophobic politics, and it need to protest the notion that hate speech in mass media and politics is not acceptable “free expression.”

The reality in the Netherlands is that the “free expression rights” for a single bigot writer at the Trouw is more important that the damage the bigot writer causes for maintenance of social peace, social cohesion, and the rights of other Dutch citizens to live in peace and security in their own country!

It’s unchecked hate speech (defended by the Dutch government) that has lead to the need to become very active in counting racism, fascism and Islamophobia. Part of the protest should be to demand the Dutch government change and start defending religious and racial minorities as human rights bodies like the Council of Europe have demanded it do…
