Geen band wist teringherrie zó goed te combineren met een goede riff en dito melodie als The Who. “I can see for miles” is wat complexer dan de andere singles van de band uit de jaren ’60 en met name de vocale harmonieën konden op het podium slecht gereproduceerd worden, reden waarom het nummer live amper gespeeld werd. Destijds werd “I can see for miles” gezien als een buitengewoon “heavy” nummer (tegenwoordig zijn we natuurlijk nog wel wat anders gewend), reden voor Paul McCartney om te bewijzen dat hij nog veel “heavier” kon zijn dan Townsend. Het resultaat van McCartney’s geldingsdrang was “Helter Skelter”, de song die door Charles Manson zou worden opgevat als een oproep een apocalyptische rassenoorlog te beginnen.
