Iggy’s legendarische optreden in Top Pop op 12 september 1977. Na afloop ontving Top Pop een lawine van klachten over de wijze waarop Iggy kwetsbare kinderzieltjes voor eeuwig in het verderf had gestort. Nooit was playbacken zo leuk.
De song handelt over Iggy’s leven als heroïneverslaafde, waarvan hij toen net afscheid had genomen (i’m through with sleeping on the sidewalk/no more beating my brains with liquor and drugs). De song zit vol verwijzingen naar het werk van William Burroughs (Junkie, The Naked Lunch). De muziek is geschreven door David Bowie, die daarbij overduidelijk beïnvloed werd door het werk dat bands als The Supremes en Martha & The Vandellas in de jaren ’60 voor Motown opnamen.
