Countryklassieker du jour: Rank Stranger

Een klassiek staaltje country-gospel. De song werd geschreven door Albert Brumley, die ook verantwoordelijk was voor ‘Turn Your Radio On’ en ‘He Set Me Free’ van de Louvin Brothers. ‘Rank’ betekent hier ‘compleet’ of ‘absoluut’.

VERSE 1
I wandered again to my home in the mountain
Where youths early dawn, I was happy an’ free
I looked for my friends but never could find them
I found they were all, rank strangers to me

CHORUS:
Everybody I met, seemed to be a rank stranger
No Mother or Dad, not a friend could I see
They knew not my name, I knew not their faces
I found they were all rank strangers to me

VERSE 2
I searched every face for a sign of a loved one
I asked everyone, where th old folks could be
I went down th road, inquired for some neighbors
But I found they were all rank strangers to me

VERSE 3
They’ve all moved away, said the voice of a stranger
To a beautiful home, by the bright crystal sea
Some beautiful day, I’ll meet them in Heaven
Where no one will be a stranger to me
