Long Walk To D.C. werd in 1968 op de plaat gezet, tijdens de hoogtijdagen van de Vietnamprotesten en de burgerrechtenbeweging. Destijds werden demonstraties nog niet schouderophalend afgedaan door the powers that be. Als je met 100.000 mensen in Washington stond werd dat heel serieus genomen.
Van de oorspronkelijke leden van de band – Pops, Pervis, Yvonne, Cleotha en Mavis – is alleen laatstgenoemde nog in leven. Mavis is inmiddels 83, maar still going strong. De albums die ze de afgelopen 20 jaar heeft gemaakt doen niet onder voor het oudere werk. Er zijn weinig leeftijdsgenoten van Mavis van wie we dat ook kunnen zeggen.
