Ooit een van de leukste Britse reggaebands, tegenwoordig grossierend in tweederangs country-covers(!). UB40 werd in 1978 in Birmingham opgericht door een stel werkloze vrienden. De naam van de band verwijst naar een formulier voor de aanvraag van een werkloosheidsuitkering (UB=Unemployment Benefit). Madame Medusa was een 12 inch extraatje bij het debuutalbum Signing Off uit 1979. Het onderwerp van de song laat zich niet moeilijk raden: Margaret Thatcher, destijds de verpersoonlijking van Het Kwaad.
