In de supermarkt weerschalt die “recente” cover, ook al weer achttien jaar oud, platgeslagen op een enkele toonhoogte en het gaat nog voor “alternatief” door ook. Grapjassen hebben die versie vertraagd opgenomen en aan Barry White toegeschreven. Die kan niets meer terugzeggen. “Zijn” versie staat wel meermalen op Youtube. Nou moe.
De versie die ik oorspronkelijk ken uit 1970, van High Broom, is niet te vinden momenteel.
Maar dit is het origineel.

Deze versie kwam ik tegen op de jijbuis, toen al zo platgeslagen als die latere cover. Misschien heeft deze modelgestaan. Bij Motown waren ze het echt wel kwijt in die dagen, met hun “nieuwe” witte artiesten.
